STEP CLASSES
STEP - NCIDQ Exam Preparation

ASID has long recognized the key role that the NCIDQ examination plays in design practitioners' career plans. Passage of this rigorous test signifies the hallmark of professionalism in the interior design community, and alerts the public to the expertise and experience of the designer who has met this challenge. To that end, ASID created the STEP program to provide a broad perspective of the issues and information pertinent to the NCIDQ exam.

The STEP workshop is periodically conducted nationwide and is comprised of 20 hours of instruction over a 2 1/2-day period. Participants have the opportunity to experience practice exams patterned after the newest NCIDQ and, with the guidance of experienced instructors, determine which areas require further preparation.  Workshop participants are provided with a comprehensive workbook that includes practicum exercises and multiple-choice sections similar to those in the NCIDQ exam. These practice tests are administered and thoroughly reviewed during the workshop. The workbook also includes helpful practice exams that participants may take home with them.

ASID MEMBER CENSUS
What You Need to Know!

You may recall that in her remarks at CLC, ASID President, Sari Graven mentioned that one of the major initiatives for the Society in FY2010 will be to gather information about ASID designers' practice and business.  We are calling this initiative the ASID Member Census.

Why Is ASID Conducting the Census?
During the strategic planning process last year, ASID leaders determined that the Society needed more complete information on all its practitioner members in order to:
  • More fully and accurately represent ASID designers' interests to decision-makers, the media, the public, and potential partners, sponsors and advertisers
  • Provide programs, resources and services that meet the needs of all members
When Is the Census Being Conducted?
The Census will be launched in late October 2009 and will be carried out throughout fiscal year 2010.

How Will the Census Be Conducted?
Our goal is to count every practitioner member.  To increase our success of meeting that goal, we will be conducting the Census in several phases:
  1. The first phase will be an e-mail invitation to all practitioner members we have e-mail addresses for, requesting that they go online and complete the Census questionnaire.
  2. The next phase will involve you-the chapter leaders.  We are looking to you to help us by reaching out to your members who do not respond to the e-mail invitation.  Each month, beginning in November, we have selected four chapters to focus on (see schedule on next page). In that month, we need you to e-mail or phone members, and/or distribute Census questionnaires at your meetings, to encourage each member to complete the Census.
  3. After the chapter has exhausted its efforts to reach each member, staff at ASID headquarters will again attempt to contact any members who have not yet responded.
Will the Census Data Be Shared with Chapter Leaders?
The Census data will be stored in the ASID membership database as part of the member's record.  Chapters will be able to use the data for their members to assist in their planning and marketing efforts.
