| Carpet Contest Winners |
Florida
South Chapter's Student Career Days Carpet Contest by Nepal Rugs
If you missed either of the Florida South Chapter's
Student Career Days this past January, or any of the many promotions
following these events, ASID unveiled a new and exciting contest for
all ASID Students in Florida and all Allied/Professional members in the
Florida South chapter. The contest, courtesy of ASID Industry Partner,
John London of www.nepalrugsandcarpets.com, was designed to
inspire creativity and whimsy while applying real world applications to
a fun and uncomplicated contest.
Congratulations go out to ASID Student Member, Seth
Greenwald, who designed a highly creative rug, whose design
was driven by the desire to be surrounded by great quotes from great
designers, without resorting to literal transcription. This was
accomplished by various shades of purple dashes and lines to spell out
in Morse code "The home should be the treasure chest of living" by Poet
Le Corbusier. Great job Seth! - View Seth's design
Equally creative ASID Allied member G.
Nicholas Poole of Miami turned his vision into a whimsical
commentary on the preservation of household possessions & a
symbolization of finding beauty in our relationship with nature by
creating the 'Moth" rug. The rug design with strategically placed
"Moth-eaten" holes in the design, adds an unexpected yet charming
aspect to this beautiful rug. - View Design
Both rugs can be viewed and closed bids will be
accepted during the months of August and September as the two finished
rugs tour showrooms in the International Design Center and the Design
Center of the America's.
All sealed bids will be opened after the silent
auction on September 25th at the ASID Product Expo taking place at the
Ritz Carlton in Naples Florida. For more information on where to view
the rugs, place your bid, or attend the product expo, please contact
ASID FSC Chapter office at (954) 926-7555 or information@asidfsc.org

| DEA Prize Winner - Viking
Manufacturing Trip |
|
A
recap from the trip!
Eloise Kubli, ASID - Shares her experience from
her trip to the charming town of Greenwood, Mississippi to attend the
Designers Seminar at the Viking manufacturing head
quarters. Eloise entered the Design Excellence Awards early and was
selected by lottery to win this exciting and generous price.
I had a wonderful time in Greenwood, MS! The
home of the Range!
Range "groupies" literally travel to Greenwood
just to view the factory, some owners arrive to watch their range go
down the assembly line, and others visit the cooking school to test out
the display ranges because they have "Stove Envy"! Viking presented a
few of their offerings during our hands-on cooking class. Including the
steam oven - demonstrated by having the attendees cook in it. The food
we prepared was wonderful, and it even bakes bread! The steam oven uses
tap water (for the minerals in the food) and also can be used to
defrost and refresh your foods. We also were introduced to the
"Induction-New Cooking Technology" that is very energy efficient or
"Green"; you can control the temperature of an induction range much
like a gas range as it gets very hot and you can also employ a
controlled simmer. It's a wonderful "replacement" cooktop for people
who would love to have gas but are not able to have a gas line
installed! I was especially impressed by the new Intelli-Wash
Dishwasher. It is quiet, and delivers precisely heated water, which is
extremely important to our clients that have high-end china and
glassware.
While in Greenwood, we also toured Cottonlandia,
which is the local history museum and enjoyed a wine tasting there.
When we were not cooking dinner, we enjoyed dining at Delta Bistro and
Giardina's Restaurant. Greenwood is a small, little town with
extremely friendly people! The gentlemen from HADCO are wonderful, knowledgeable
professionals.
Special thanks to Barry Cohen, Rusty Gibson and
Monty Montieth for taking such great care of us and explaining all of
the wonderful nuances of Viking during our training session. They make
learning FUN!
Very Special thanks to Mark from HADCO and
ASID!!!
