two local chefs will battle head to head in Florida Builder
Appliances's luxury kitchen showroom while you dine on assorted freshly
prepared appetizers, sip wine, and partake in the silent auction for
your chance to win amazing items! The Platinum Chef will mirror the
popular network show, with two chefs battling in the kitchen
stadium to impress the judges with their assortment of dishes made from
the secret ingredient, released to them just moments before the
competition. They will have 60 minutes to test their culinary skills in
front of a live audience. Then, they will be judged on taste, plating
and originality, with a winner chosen by esteemed judges.

The
American Society of Interior Designers has long recognized the key role
that the NCIDQ examination plays in design practitioners' career plans.
Passage of this rigorous test signifies the hallmark of professionalism
in the interior design community, and alerts the public to the
expertise and experience of the designer who has met this challenge. To
that end, ASID created the STEP program to provide a broad perspective
of the issues and information pertinent to the NCIDQ exam.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The STEP workshop is periodically conducted nationwide and is comprised
of 20 hours of instruction over a 2 1/2-day period. Participants have
the opportunity to experience practice exams patterned after the newest
NCIDQ and, with the guidance of experienced instructors, determine
which areas require further preparation. Workshop participants are
provided with a comprehensive workbook that includes practicum
exercises and multiple-choice sections similar to those in the NCIDQ
exam. These practice tests are administered and thoroughly reviewed
during the workshop. The workbook also includes helpful practice exams
that participants may take home with them.

Awards!
It's that
time of year again and we are looking for the best and brightest in our
Chapter to shine! Be sure to enter our Design Excellence
Awards.
We have
added a lot of new categories, even ones for our Industry
Partners. We are looking forward to seeing what fantastic work is
coming out of the Florida South Chapter. All entries are
submitted to the Chapter Office and are judged by another ASID Chapter.
Information
on submission and entry kits are available online at DEA info or from the
Chapter Office at 954-926-7555. Deadline for submission is July
17, 2009.
The awards
will be presented at our annual DEA Dinner to be held this year at The
Ritz Carlton Beach Resort in Naples, September 25, 2009.

auctions that will take place during the Platinum Chef East Coast
Summer Event on July 30, 2009 in Pompano Beach and the Annual Design
Excellence Awards in Naples on September 25, 2009. This is an

On Thursday
April 16th ASID FSC Industry partner Sunex International, Inc.
Hosted the ASID Member Evening in their beautiful Trade Only Showroom,
located in Pompano Beach, Florida. Networking, a tour of the showroom,
food, & cocktails were followed by a Free .02 CEU course entitled
"The History of Stile & Rail Doors". It was very well received by
all the designers who attended everyone learned how trustile MDF Doors
can contribute to LEED points in their green projects. Sunex
International is planning to repeat this FREE CEU again in July. To

After this
intriguing course Mark Livingood, and the great guys from Viking
Range/Hadco unveiled an incredible stainless steel BBQ grill from their
Road Show Trailer, that showcases their latest products, and proceeded

breast, fresh salad and all the sides. Viking Range /Hadco also
provided and incredible free raffle and congratulations go out to Par
Lundin ASID, on winning the 3 day trip, to Greenwood Mississippi with
airfare, VIP accommodations, meals and admission to the Viking Design
Seminar being held at the end of the month.

| Congratulations Eloise Kubli, ASID |
Big Winner - It really pays to plan ahead!
Congratulation go out to Eloise Kubli ASID, of Collective Construction
& Design Inc, on winning the 3 day all expenses paid trip to the
charming town of Greenwood, Mississippi to attend the Designers Seminar
at the Viking manufacturing head quarters.
Eloise entered the Design Excellence Awards early and was
selected by
lottery to win this exciting and generous price.
Eloise has been an ASID member since 1983 and her company has
created
many beautiful projects included several for the Marriot Corporation,
Broward County Government Center, Florida Atlantic University, as well
as numerous homes, condominiums, restaurants and medical centers around

Remembering Ralph Acevedo, ASID
ASID is sad to announce the recent passing of Ralph Acevedo, ASID on
May 13th, 2009.
Ralph was a member of the Florida South Chapter of ASID for nearly 20
years. He also was a founding member of the DCOTA Design on Call
program and his clients spanned many counties through out North and
South America.
Ralph always had a good word and a smile for
everyone and was known by all as being soft spoken, very talented, and
a true gentleman.
When the University of Miami Medical Center and DCOTA partnered to
create an entire wing dedicated to assist patients living with aids,
Ralph was the first person to step forward to design a tranquil room
and worked diligently using all his contacts to finish the project
where every item and service needed came from donated materials. Ralph
will be extremely missed but many of his good deeds will live on.
His funeral will be held today May 15th, 2009 at 3:30 pm. It will
be held at Star of David Cemetery, 7701 Bailey Road, N. Lauderdale, FL
33068, 954-722-9000.
