Product Expo 2009
By Martin Hershbein, Duralee Fabrics and Fine Furniture
Expo Chair, Industry Partner Community Leader

The Naples Product Expo at the beautiful Ritz Carlton on Friday, Sept. 25, was a tremendous success and sold out for the fifth year in a row. I want to personally thank all our Industry Partners who exhibited at the show and who helped sponsor the event.

Altogether we had almost 50 vendors displaying products and services in a casual yet professional setting. A variety of exhibitors participated, many for the first time. New products that the designers haven't seen before made for an exciting show.

I would like to thank Brooke Tully and Artistic Surfaces for their generosity in buying drinks for exhibitors and designers at the expo cocktail party. More than 200 people attended the show, making this expo one of the best attended in a few years.

Accolades also go to all those design professionals who support our Florida South Chapter throughout the year. They include media sponsor Home Miami and Fort Lauderdale Magazine, Benjamin Moore-our grand sponsor for three years in a row-Eostone, Artistic Surfaces, Ruben Sorhegui Tiles, Bazzeo/Richlin Interiors, International Design Center, Coverings, Rogers Design Group, International Design Source, Kasmir Fabrics, and John Stillman Photography.

Start making your plans for next year's event, Keys to Success, Sept. 24th - 26th, 2010, to be held at an island location to be revealed soon.

Thank you to our Board, Volunteers, Industry Partners, Sponsors, and especially our members who made it all possible.

Thank you to our emcee Shemeka Wilson, Whirlpool Corporation, Industry Partner

Chapter Elections Coming Soon
Volunteer for the ASID/FSC Board!

Dear ASID Florida South Chapter Member (Practitioners and Industry Partners)

Chapter elections are coming shortly.  We are looking to you to see if you are interested in a position within our Florida South Chapter as a board member.  ASID values volunteers as a most important resource of the Society. We value your current, past, or future involvement and volunteerism with ASID.

We are seeking a mix of professionals who have varied experiences with ASID, the community at large and contributions to the interior design profession. Individuals such as yourself bring a wide variety of knowledge and expertise to ASID and we hope that you will consider participating on the board as a voice of the interior design profession.

Officers and board members must be able to commit the necessary time. There are eight board meetings held throughout the year and several conference calls. Board members must prepare for all meetings and preparation time can vary. Being on the ASID, FL South Chapter Board of Directors does require a time commitment, but is also very rewarding.

The board member positions are a two-year commitment. There are openings for Directors at Large, and Membership Director. Each Director's term is October 1, 2010 - September 30, 2012. Download descriptions here.

Along with these duties, directors and officers are board liaisons to various committees.
Some of these committees meet face-to-face while others meet through teleconferences.
The length and frequency depends on each committee. An outline of each committee is
given at the time of the appointment.

If you are interested in any position, please click on the attached Candidate Biographical Information and submit form to Jeffrey Gillis, Administrator ASID FL South Chapter, 1855 Griffin Road, Suite-485, Dania Beach, FL  33004, or fax to (954) 367-6636 by Monday, November 2, 2009. The ballots will be mailed with our winter issue of the magazine.

I hope you will consider submitting your name for election to the board. As a member of the ASID, FL South Chapter Board of Directors, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the direction of the Society and continue its mission 'Where Design Comes to Life." As those of us who continue to volunteer know - the rewards are great and the experiences valuable!

Sincerely,

Susan Morgan, ASID, CAPS, LEED AP

Indiana - HB 1573, a title act that creates an electronic registry of registered interior designers in the state, was signed into law on May 13. The new legislation provides for the voluntary registration of interior designers who meet certain education, experience and examination qualifications to ensure their expertise in all areas of interior design. Qualified Indiana designers, once registered, will be able to use the term "registered interior designer" (RID) after their name. This registry is expected to be completed and online by December. Details on the law, and what it means to interior designers of Indiana, can be found at www.safeinteriordesign.org.

Oklahoma - SB 592, a bill amending the Interior Design Act, changed the title of licensees under the Act from "interior designer" to "registered interior designer" and was signed into law May 13.

Texas - HB 1484, a bill amending the Interior Design Act, changed the title of licensees under the Act from "interior designer" to "registered interior designer" and was signed into law May 12.
