***JUBILATION 08***
2008-03-14

Music! Food! Drinks! Exciting Auction Items! Good friends! and a Great Cause!!!!!

Mark your calendar for the ASID Foundation’s Annual Fundraising Event: JUBILATION 08!  This event, held during INTERIORS 08:  The ASID Conference on Design, will be Friday, March 14, in New Orleans.  Matt Lorenz, Allied Member of ASID, and winner of Bravo TV’s “Top Design,” is serving as this year’s Jubilation honorary chairman.

Through interior design research, scholarship and education, the ASID Foundation – our Foundation – was created to help address critical issues facing interior design and issues that affect the health, safety and welfare of our communities such as sustainable design, technology, design for learning environments and the needs of an aging population.

Your previous contributions have funded these Projects:  Scholarships; Grants; Awards; Supporter of a major standards revision project for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA – formerly FIDER); Collaborative Project with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to develop sustainable guidelines and resources for homeowners and residential design professionals, suppliers, & contractors; Major Sponsor for The Green House, New Directions in Sustainable Architecture & Design Exhibit – toured by 124,000 in Washington DC and now on a national tour!

The highlight of Jubilation 08 will be the live and silent auction. The purpose of our fundraiser is to raise money to fund new projects!  As before, awards will be given to the top three ASID chapters who are responsible for raising the most money.  Please help our chapter in bringing home first place!  Our deadline is January 15.

Contact our ASID Foundation Chapter Liaison, Jeffrey Gillis at information@asidfsc.org or call 954-926-7555 or download the Auction Donation Form that is to be submitted with each auction item.  This will help assure that you and our chapter receives the appropriate acknowledgment.

Thank you for your part in helping the future of the interior design profession by making Jubilation 08 a true success!!!

Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale welcomes new ASID School Chapter President Rose Abdallah
2007-12-12

Rose Abdallah

Rose Abdallah, was born in Jerusalem, Israel on April 29, 1985 (22 years old). She comes from a Roman Catholic family and attended Catholic school from the age of kindergarten through 12th grade. She grew up in Atlanta Georgia, and moved to the Fort Lauderdale area about 12 years ago. She graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in 2003. Upon graduating from high school, Rose was accepted into the University of Florida in the pre-med program, but quickly realized she had no passion for medicine.

Rose always had a passion for design and decorating and realized that her heart and soul was in the interior design profession, not the medical field. “I started thinking about what kind of career I wanted to have once I graduated from college. I wanted to be successful, but more importantly to me, is to enjoy what I do.” She transferred to the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale last April to pursue a degree in Interior Design.  “I have always had a passion for design, and finally I can honestly say I enjoy what I am studying”.

Rose is finishing up her 3rd quarter at AIFL. She is currently taking 18 credits each quarter and will plan on graduating in March 2009.  “My favorite part of Interior Design is space planning.”

Because of the heavy workload that comes with taking 18 credits, she rarely has time for leisure, but when she does, she enojys watching tv, reading magazines, shopping, touring model homes.

Rose has been on the deans list the entire time she has been at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and has been awarded a bright futures scholarship. She is currently working with the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in the Red Cross Showcase House project.  She is also doing an internship at Ammon Hickson, Inc. Showroom in the DCOTA.

Her goals is to graduate in March 2009, and to get a job working under the supervision of a licensed Interior Designer - and get licenced herself. Her long term goals and ambition is to start her own business as an Interior Designer.
