From my 25-year-experience I rate Glarry with 5 stars simply because it’s the best value for money in the market. A decorative guitar for the wall costs more but it doesn’t play, Glarry instruments with a proper set up play quite pleasantly. Ideal for beginners & hobbyists, excellent for back up instruments, cheaper and much better than any instrument of this price range. Also ideal for anyone who wants to start working on instruments, luthiers in training and musicians who want to learn how to set up their own instruments. Communication with glarry so far has very basic, sometimes I feel like a lot of Google Translate has been involved, but it was always helpful.
Our aim is to provide every person with an enjoyable music making experience by delivering quality music products and services at competitive prices in an inspiring retail environment. Wirecutter is the product recommendation service from The New York Times. Our journalists combine independent research with (occasionally) over-the-top testing so you can make quick and confident buying decisions.
The Roland FP-10 is our favorite budget digital piano because it delivers a playing experience similar to that of an acoustic piano without the intrusive size and upkeep. It even simulates escapement, the feeling you get on an acoustic piano when the hammer drops away after striking the strings. The FP-10’s simulation of a grand piano’s sound is also the best we encountered, though only a subtle improvement over the sound of the Casio models we recommend below. The FP-10 has a number of helpful features, including the ability to split the keyboard in two so that teacher and student can play together on the same piano.
It’s the same keyboard as our runner-up, the Casio CDP-S160, but it offers a lot more features for only about $70 more. For us, the big plus of the CDP-S360 is that it has 700 sounds, versus only 10 sounds on the CDP-S160. On the downside, even though this model has a display panel, its inclusion of so many additional features makes it far more complicated to use. Controlling the keyboard’s functions is much easier through Casio’s Music Space app, but that requires a wired USB connection to a phone or tablet—unless you spring for the optional Casio WU-BT10 Bluetooth adapter. When we find enough new models to warrant fresh testing, we assemble them all in one place and call in a few pro pianists (and, sometimes, a student or two) to give them a spin. We ask the panelists to tell us not only what they personally prefer but also what they would recommend for students.
The blue finish on the GST3 was actually gorgeous, especially when paired with the sunset pearl pick-guard. When it got to me the box was thin and banged up but the case had kept it safe.
